Big
big big big credits go to :
All the cool people who participated in collecting all the filter-algos and
routines on the musicdsp archive ( http://www.musicdsp.org ).
Many thanks especially to bram for maintaining this superb knowledge-base, and
for building up the really nice new version of the muisdsp-site now located
at www.musicdsp.org .
The source code of the filter part of this plug will also available, to play
around with the filter-algos and to add new algos.
If you are interested in plugin programming, don't miss to visit #musicdsp on
Efnet via IRC.

Install/Uninstall
To install, copy "ZaFi2.dll" to the "VstPlugins" folder of your host application
(for example: "C:/programs/Steinberg/Cubase VST32 5.0/Vstplugins/" ).
To uninstall just delete this file.
Quick
Tour:
01) load the plugin
in an insert-fx slot in your host-program
02) open the editor and let the plugin process a sound-source (VST-Instument,
Wave-File)
03) when the "ZaFi2_def.fxb" is present in the same directory where the
plugin .dll resides, you can now skip thru those preloaded programs.
(note: you can also overwrite this .fxb file with an own bank holding your favorite
programs that are then loaded at startup !)
(note2: don't forget to check out the other 4 preset-banks that came with this
package)
(note3:
this does not apply to the demo version)
04) switch off filter2 with the green FILTER2 ON/OFF-BUTTON
in the lower right
05) skip through the filters on filter1 by using the dropdown-menu over
the FILTER1 ON/OFF BUTTON and play with the FREQ/RES
settings. Also try DRIVE and SHAPE
controls.
06) you can add a lfo to modulate the cutoff by choosing the AMOUNT
of lfo-modulation and SPEED
07) syncing to the hosts bpm works with simply pressing the desired value
(16 - 1/32) on the MATRIX-CONTROL
(note: the SPEED-knob will be updated to the choosen
value, so you can use this as a delay-calculator, too :-) )
(note2: setting the the SYNC-MATRIX to "off" will
leave the SPEED setting in the last set position)
(note3: moving the SPEED-knob
will automatically set sync to off)
08) Change the tempo of your current song, a bpm-synced lfo will automatically
detect this and updated the speed (see the SPEED
knobs value)
(note: the sync setting will be saved with the programs, so if you reload the
program in a song with higher tempo it will automatically fit)
09) use the GAIN-knob to give quiet filters
(e.g. bp with high reso) extra-makeup before it reaches the sat/dist unit
10) toggle the second filter on
11) look at the current ROUTING-SETUP in
the middle-section to the right: it should be set to SERIAL
The incoming signal goes through filter1 then through the sat/dist, after that
through the filter2
12) you should now experiment a little bit in this mode, using different
algorithms and filter/cutoff/gain/drive-knobs of filter1 and 2
13) switch to PARALLEL mode
14) now the filters are processed in parallel with the same input (look
at the diagram for the routing and experiment)
15) switch on the LINK-button and activate
the FreeEnv-control in the middle of the plug with the small green switch under
it.
16) This control describes a freq->volume modulation graph for both filters
(the red one for filt1 the green for filt2)
17) you can paint the graph with right/left mousebuttons
18) now move the CUTOFF-knob of filter1.
It will be linked to CUTOFF of filter2. The current
frequencey will also be shown in the FreeEnv-control
(note: a relative offset for filter2 to filter1-freq can be set by adjusting
the filt2-freq knob)
19) filter1-CUTOFF can be controlled in
realtime via midi with Mod-Wheel, filter2 via MIDI CC74 (you will have to set
up a midi track for ZapFilter^2 for that)
20) another very cool feature is to switch the presets via midi-notes
on channel 15 (c1 and up).
(note: You'll feel like daft punk when doing that... )
(note2: this will also re-sync both lfos)
21) you can record any control via VST-Automation in your host
22) adjust the output volumes of the different programs with the VOL-knob,
which is always applied at last in the routing
23) For even more features this v1.6 gives you, see the v1.0->v1.5 and
v1.5->v1.6 update info.
24) forgot something: don't forget to eat and sleep ;-) (should have
mentioned this earlier, sorry :))

There's lots of potential for additional features and we have many weird ideas
(but we won't tell them now) and also await your suggestions for further development
